In recent months, New York City Council has voted to rezone several key areas of land for new social housing projects. Notably, major rezonings have been approved in Long Island City and Jamaica—two prominent urban centers in Queens. Over the next decade, these areas are expected to see the construction of 27,000 new homes, including more than 8,500 affordable housing units. Significant community investments are also planned within the rezoned districts, such as upgrades to water and sewer infrastructure, the construction of new schools, and the addition of public amenities like parks and playgrounds.
